Jo-Ann's Dance Studio and Vertical Freedom would like to congratulate our student of the month - Cara Fort!
Here's some insight from Cara:
VF:What made you try pole dancing?
Cara: I've always loved dance and movement. I did pilates, yoga and aerial yoga for fitness but I wanted to try something new. I loved the way pole dancing looked and the strength and grace it showed. I also needed something to help me loosen up and be more comfortable in my own skin after becoming a mother. Something I could make "me time" and an alternative to being a gym rat.
VF: What were you thinking when you stepped into class for the first time?
Cara: I was a little nervous and not sure what to expect. "Do I have to take my shirt? I have stretch marks." "Do I have to wear shorts? My booty isn't what it used to be." "I'm probably going to look goofy" Now I couldn't care less, lol.
VF: What do you like about it?
Cara: I love the abandon I feel when dancing and the challenge of learning new moves and techniques.
VF: What would you tell someone that's thinking about trying it?
Care: There's nothing to it but to do it! It's a great and fun workout.
VF: What makes you stay at Vertical Freedom/Jo-Ann's dance studio rather than go somewhere else?
Cara: I grew up in Jo-Ann's, it was my second childhood home. It was my safe space and I treasure the friendships I've made there as well as the education I gained. It's hard to find a dance school that teaches solid dance fundamentals and technique versus trendy, kitschy moves purely for show. For me to try something still considered a bit "taboo" and stigmatized, I only felt comfortable "coming home".
Additionally, the classes are awesome. The group is a fun bunch of women who love to laugh, joke and encourage each other. It's a great way to blow off steam after a long day.
Who would you like to nominate as our next student of the month?
